The Media Commons is proud to announce that it has just released its iMovie interactive video modules. This innovative technology can assist both students and faculty with learning the interface and the different features of iMovie, such as how to compose a project, adding various effects, and backing up a project in order to work on it in the future.

They are composed of three different components. First, there is a video tutorial that will show and explain how to use the interface and the different features of iMovie. Next is an interactive drag and drop portion that will help the user practice the techniques shown in the video through an interactive iMovie screen. Finally, some modules will have a few multiple choice or true or false questions to answer, to make sure the user has retained the information from the video and drag and drop portions.

Professors can integrate this technology into their classes in many ways, especially if they are planning on giving students an assignment that has a video component and requires them to use iMovie. It can serve as a back-up option for students who are unable to attend an in-class workshop in the Media Commons, or it can be a homework assignment for students to complete before beginning their video project. By using this method, professors can substitute an iMovie workshop, the Media Commons Scholarly Storytelling workshop, or an open lab where students can bring in their own materials and begin to work on their projects and ask specific questions on various issues. The modules are fully integrated with ANGEL, so professors will be able to know when and if a student has completed the modules.

Additionally, it serves as an online resource for students to use while working on their projects in iMovie. If students forget how to do something that they learned in a workshop, they can easily find the answer in the interactive video modules.

The modules were created by consultants Dan Getz and Ariel Siegelman. They can be found at any time under the Instruction & Training tab on the Media Commons website.
