iMovie IconWe wanted to post about the changes coming to the software that will be available on Media Commons workstations this Fall. Beginning in the coming days, Classroom and Lab Computing (CLC) – as well as our local campus contacts – will be pushing out the most recent versions of all of Apple’s iLife suite to the MC iMacs. This will include the latest iteration of iMovie (version 10, if you’re keeping score).

The new version of iMovie offers all the same functionality as the older versions – however, the interface has changed drastically and tools are located in different places than before. Overall, Media Commons staff find this revised interface to be more intuitive and we believe you will, too. For a preview and more information about the latest iMovie, we encourage you to visit Apple’s creativity site.

Our website will reflect all of the changes the latest software brings with it via our Tutorial library and interactive Modules. These updated resources will be in place by the beginning of Fall, so you’ll be covered as you work with the new editing application. We will also be shifting our in-class training to facilitate the new version of iMovie.

Additionally, Media Commons is excited to announce that we are working with developers on an automated project back up solution for saving iMovie projects to the MC Storage Space. This new tool – installed on all workstations, right on the desktop – should streamline both the backup and restore process for video projects going forward.

If you have any questions about the newest version of iMovie, the Media Commons implementation and support of the software or general workstation image questions please contact us today.

Enjoy the rest of Summer and here’s to a great Fall semester!
