OBS at Mont Alto

Penn State Mont Alto has become the first of the Commonwealth campus locations to open its own One Button Studio!  The inclusion of this automated video studio has created a media production suite on the second floor of the Library where it joins three Media Commons editing spaces.

OBS Installation

Installation in Room 202 was completed just two weeks ago and the transformation is dramatic in terms of added uses for the space but also quite subtle, in that much of the original character has been preserved:

Walled by books on three sides, the new One Button Studio features lighting around a track on the ceiling and a camera tucked away in the back of the room.  Visitors will notice a large LCD that can be used for tele-prompting and slide display in the back corner and a kiosk at the front.  Walking over to the kiosk prompts a user to plug in their flash drive and then fires up all of the lights and camera, each of which has been expertly placed specifically for use in Room 202.  Faculty, students or staff can then stand in front of the neutral grey fourth wall – or use it as a projection screen for displaying slides or other backdrops behind them.  Visitors can even borrow a cloth green screen from the Library to record themselves in any location with a little editing magic.

When not in use as a One Button Studio, Room 202 can be used as a collaborative workspace or even a traditional video studio with the lighting and tripods still available from the older Media Commons studio.  Already, the One Button Studio has played host to alumni during reunion week, each of whom used the technology to record videos in which they shared their memories of time spent at Penn State Mont Alto.

We’d say the new resource off to a great start!  To learn more about OBS at Mont Alto and other locations, be sure to check out our One Button Studio page.
